GreenSpring Summer Chamber Music Institute (GSCMI) develops sound principles in ensemble playing for promising youth, ages 22 and younger. Students are placed in ensembles based on age and level, and are expected to learn the repertoire prior to the institute. This allows for the week to be spent playing together as the ensembles prepare for high-level concerts at the end of the week, with an option to perform the same repertoire on the subsequent National or International Tour.
July 23-27, Full Day 9am-4pm; Half-Day 1-4pm in Richmond, VA
For promising students of string, brass, woodwind, and harp students ages 18 and younger, who are at various stages of music development. Placement upon registration.
For outstanding string, brass, woodwind, harp, and piano students ages 22 and younger, with an emphasis on excellence in chamber music.
The Rising Musicians track does not require auditions.
For the Young Artists track, students should perform and submit two music selections of their choice via YouTube for placement into an appropriate ensemble. Music selections can include a slow and fast solo piece of music (portions of longer solos are fine) or two different orchestra pieces (for school orchestra students). Please limit the recording to 2.5 minutes for each piece. YouTube links should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
